Understanding Products in VasBox
Products are the items and services you sell through your business.
Your product catalog is the foundation of invoicing and receipt creation in VasBox. Whether you sell physical goods or provide services, each item needs to be set up correctly for ZIMRA compliance.
Physical Products
- • Goods with inventory
- • Items measured by quantity, weight, or volume
- • Require HS codes for customs
Services
- • Professional or consulting services
- • No physical inventory
- • Marked as "Is Service" in the system
ZIMRA Compliance
Each product requires proper tax category assignment. This ensures correct VAT calculation and reporting to ZIMRA.
Product Information Structure
Understanding each field in a product record.
- Name
- Display name on receipts and invoices
- SKU
- Stock Keeping Unit - unique identifier for each product
- HS Code
- Harmonized System code required for ZIMRA compliance
- Description
- Detailed product description (optional)
- Unit Price
- Default selling price in USD
- Tax Category
- VAT/tax rate assignment (e.g., Standard, Zero-rated)
- Unit of Measure
- How product is sold (each, kg, liter, etc.)
- Is Service
- Flag for service items (non-physical goods)
HS Codes
Harmonized System (HS) codes are international product classification codes. For most retail products, ZIMRA provides standard codes. If unsure, consult ZIMRA guidelines or your accountant.
